Wellness apps had a record breaking year in 2020 with COVID-19 lockdowns affecting consumer behaviour, leading to a higher number of people downloading apps to keep fit and healthy.

Now, new data from Sensor Tower projects that wellness app downloads  could reach over one billion in 2021.
While some apps have returned to their pre-pandemic download levels, Telehealth apps adoption has remained high, rising 33% in Q1 2021 alone.
Downloads of the top 10 tele healthy apps in the US climbed to 7 million with MyChart leading the charts at a record 1.1 million downloads in January this year.
At the same time, monthly active users jumped 44% in April 2020 in the US.
And although usage has dropped slightly, it remains high in 2021 (up 26%).
European consumers pent around $544 million in mobile health and fitness apps in 2020 and this growth seems unstoppable this year.
In January 2021, spending in the 100 top wellness apps in Europe was over $45 million, a rise of 134%.
The increase comes mostly from in-app subscriptions.
