Sand sticking is a common surface defect of castings. It looks like metal and sand are intermingled with each other.
Rough surface layer caused by adhesion. This kind of defect will bring many problems, such as:

  • Affect the appearance of castings.
  • If the casting needs to be cut, the sticky sand on the surface will cause the tool to wear quickly, or even destroy it.
  • Bad tool. This will cause a lot of trouble to the machine workers and increase the manufacturing cost of the machine parts.
  • Some non-machined surfaces in contact with lubricating oil, such as the inner cavity of the gear box and the inner passage of the hydraulic valve
  • It is said that if the sticky sand falls off during use, it will cause serious consequences.
  • The work of removing sticky sand requires a lot of manpower and material resources and causes dust pollution.
  • In the case of wet casting, sand sticking defects are particularly prone to occur. So, discuss the sticky sand
  • The formation process and measures to prevent sand sticking are beneficial.

In the long-term production practice, the foundry workers have deepened their understanding of sticky sand, and they have also mastered many
Effective anti-sticking measures. However, so far, the formation mechanism of sticky sand has not been fully understood in theory, and the problem of anti-sticky sand in actual production is far from being solved.
